OUR HISTORY
2018 Acquisition of castor manufacturer Liv Kolesa d.o.o.
The parent company of Konijnenburg BV, Konindustries BV acquires a 50% stake in LIV KOLESA d.o.o. This plant, located 45 kilometres east of Triest, is the fifth castor factory in Europe. The plant has 170 employees and posted a turnover of €14 million in 2017. For Konijnenburg Wheels, the acquisition is an important strengthening of its market position. LIV Kolesa is considered the most competitive wheel manufacturer in Europe thanks to its automated presses and favourable labour costs in Slovenia. Konijnenburg's customers will gain the ability to order very large volumes of custom casters within a few weeks as a result of the acquisition. Currently, the minimum delivery time for such volumes from Asia is 10 weeks. Read full article in Financial Dagblad or Link magazine.
2017 Acquisition of castor manufacturer Vlukon BV
The acquisition of Vlukon BV in Vaals strengthens its ability to quickly develop customised products. Vlukon has a long tradition in producing wheels with metal rims for industrial and agricultural applications. The company has an in-house design and engineering department and its own mould making facilities, which is why leading clients such as Lely, John Deere, New Holland, Kärcher and Doppelmayr ski lifts have been turning to Vlukon for customised solutions for many years. The powder coating facility guarantees rims in any colour and with the longest life span in the industry. The acquisition doubles turnover in the Konindustries group to 12 million euros. To further develop the company's advantages, cooperation is established with Europe's largest technical university, RWTH Aachen and Fachhochschule Aachen. Also, the new management initiates a World class manufacturing programme in which Quick Response Manufacturing(QRM) and Lean Six Sigma should ensure that production capacity and leadership position are further expanded.
2007 - Takeover of Langerak wheels by Konijnenburg BV
Langerak wheels which was known as a supplier of high-quality polyurethane wheels is taken over by Konijnenburg BV. The warehouse is integrated into the central Konijnenburg BV warehouse in Amsterdam.
1977 - Second generation
In 1977, Pim took over his father's shares. He concentrated more on wheels. A product group manager was appointed for other product groups such as Compressed Air, suture equipment and wagon building articles. Other product groups disappeared from the range. Both steps were taken to become more specialised. Through this focus, Pim ensured that Konijnenburg Wheels became synonymous with quality, service and customer focus throughout the Benelux.
1953 - To Amsterdam
Due to growth, Konijnenburg moved to Amsterdam in 1953. This was necessary for more spacious accommodation and a more central location. The choice fell on the back of a large building on Prins Hendrikkade. Even this building was not big enough to keep up with the growth. In 1967, new premises at Sloterdijk industrial estate, Elektronstraat 19, were taken into use. It offered plenty of room for future growth. Not only for wheels but also for new products. Thus Konijnenburg was ready for further growth not only in the Netherlands but also in Europe.
1946 - Foundation
In 1946, Wim van Konijnenburg started his own company. The activities in the beginning consisted of selling wooden toys and representing Czech woodworking tools. Trading was done under the name Grimpex (Wholesale Import Export). The office was a room at home. Wim's mother did the administration. Packages were packed by Wim's father. Wim's son Pim took parcels to the post office on his scooter. A real family business.
